OSHA 501 – Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry 10/7 NV

OSHA 501 – TRAINER COURSE IN OSHA STANDARDS FOR GENERAL INDUSTRY

Offered by Mid Atlantic OTI Education Center, this course will be held at ABC-VA Northern Virginia Training Facility, Host Training Organization
October 7 – 10, 2024 | 8:00AM – 4:00PM
This course is designed for individuals interested in teaching the 10 and 30-hour general industry safety and health Outreach training program to their employees and other interested groups. Using the OSHA General Industry Standards as a guide, special emphasis is placed on those topics required in the 10- and 30-hour programs as well as those which are most hazardous. Students are briefed on effective instructional approaches and use of visual aids and handouts. This course allows the student to become a trainer in the OSHA Outreach Training Program, to conduct both 10- and 30-hour General Industry Outreach classes, and to issue cards to participants after verifying course completion. Students who wish to participate as authorized trainers in the OSHA Outreach Training Program must prepare a presentation on an assigned OSHA General Industry Outreach Training Program topic individually or as part of a group and successfully pass a written exam at the end of the course.

Prerequisites: Students must successfully complete the OSHA #511 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry and have five (5) years of safety and health work experience in general industry. A degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation may be substituted for two (2) years of work related experience. Students should obtain guidance on whether they meet this requirement from the OSHA Training Institute Education Center where they intend to receive the training. Authorized OSHA General Industry Outreach Training Program trainers are required to attend OSHA #503 Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers at least once every four (4) years to maintain their trainer status.

Industry OSHA Standards courses (#510, #511, and #5410) must be completed not later than seven (7) years prior to completing the relevant Industry Trainer course (#500, #501, and #5400).

OSHA 511 – OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH STANDARDS FOR GENERAL INDUSTRY

This course covers OSHA Standards, policies, and procedures in general industry.  Topics include scope and application of the OSHA General Industry Standards, general industry principles and special emphasis on those areas in general industry which are most hazardous.  Upon course completion students will have the ability to define general industry terms found in the OSHA General Industry Standards, identify hazards which occur in general industry, locate and determine appropriate OSHA General Industry Standards, policies, and procedures, and describe the use of OSHA General Industry Standards and regulations to supplement an ongoing safety and health program.

24-Hour Competent Person Fall Protection Training 11/19 HR

24-HOUR COMPETENT PERSON FALL PROTECTION TRAINING
November 19, 20 & 21, 2024 |  7:00AM – 4:00PM

In Accordance with ANSI Standard Z359.2
(Conforms to the 24-Hour Training Requirements of the EM-385-1-1 2014 Edition)

EM385-1-1 requires all Competent Persons who have employees who work at height, to attend a 24-hour class. Federal enforcement of training requirements began September 1, 2016. Section 21 is significantly different from the current OSHA Subpart M and ANSI A10.32 requirements.

This 24-hour training is in accordance with 29CFR 1926 and EM-385-1-1, introducing students to the USACE EM385-1-1 Safety & Health Standards, as well as Virginia and Federal Construction Safety Standards and Regulations covering Fall Protection. This course includes classroom instruction in addition to the required 8-hours of practical hands-on training.

Topics Include:
– An integrated study of hazard recognition and abatement principles related to falls on construction worksites.
– Available equipment, equipment use, maintenance, storage and inspection requirements to maintain compliance
– Basic rescue techniques and emergency action procedures
– The study of compliance issues and challenges facing safety professionals including mishap and case study analysis, Virginia and Federal general safety standards, worksite inspections, interfacing with compliance officials, vertical and horizontal standards, and common construction industry compliance issues are also discussed.

Additional Topics Include:
– Equipment selection, Inspection and Donning
– Fall Prevention/Restraint/Arrest
– Fall Hazard Elimination
– Passive v. Active Systems
– Fall arrest rescue systems
– Selection and usage on non-certified anchorages
– Authorized persons’ duties and responsibilities
– Competent persons’ duties and responsibilities
– Testing of fall protection equipment
– “Hands-On” scenario of fall protection systems
– OSHA and ANSI Standards of Fall Protection

Who Should Attend:
Anyone required to manage a safety program or who is responsible to be the on-site Competent Person, including Safety Managers, Safety Directors, Onsite Managers, Supervisors, Section Leads and Responsible Persons.

What To Bring:
Bring your personal fall protection harness with you to class. Doing so will provide the opportunity to learn how to properly wear your personal equipment you’d like to bring to class, it can be inspected as well (i.e. lifelines, lanyards, anchorages, etc.) Bringing in some of your own gear to class will provide you with practical experience suing your own equipment in addition to the equipment provided in class.
