PIPEFITTING
Pipefitters install and repair pipes that carry liquids or gases to commercial structures. Pipefitters typically do the following:
- Read blueprints or technical diagrams
- Install and maintain wiring, control, and lighting systems
- Inspect electrical components, such as transformers and circuit breakers
- Identify electrical problems with a variety of testing devices
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools and power tools
- Follow state and local building regulations based on the National Electric Code
- Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring or equipment

WELDING
Welders join and repair metal components used in commercial buildings, bridges, pipelines, and other structures. They use specialized equipment to create strong, durable connections and help ensure projects are built safely and accurately. Welders typically do the following:
- Read blueprints, drawings, or technical specifications
- Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning, cutting, or shaping materials
- Operate welding equipment to join metal components using various welding techniques
- Inspect completed welds to ensure they meet quality and safety standards
- Repair cracks, damaged metal, or worn components
- Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment
- Follow safety procedures and wear protective equipment while working with high heat and heavy materials
- Maintain and inspect welding equipment to ensure proper operation
