Henderson, Inc. Announces New Chief Operating Officer  
Henderson, Inc. proudly announces the promotion of Bill Strack to Chief Operating Officer.  Bill joined the organization in 1995 and has worked his way through the ranks, have served in the roles of laborer, pipe layer, foreman, superintendent, general site superintendent, and most recently as the Vice-President of Site Operations. Bill’s promotion to Chief Operating Officer recognizes his significant contributions to Henderson, Inc. during his tenure.  All Henderson, Inc. employees wish Bill much success in his new role.

 


Broad Run Recycling Hosting Earth Day Open House
In recognition of Earth Day on April 22, Broad Run Recycling/IDS is hosting an open house of their facility demonstrating the latest technology for recycling construction waste. Broad Run Recycling extends an open invitation to stop in to tour their facility, listen to pertinent speakers and learn how they can help you meet requirements for LEED certification. The open house is at 9220 Developers Drive, Manassas, VA  20109, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.


ABC-VA Member Recognized by WBJ
Joe Andronaco, President of USA Technology Services, was recently selected as an honoree in the Washington Business Journal’s Minority Business Leaders awards program.  The award is intended to honor the entrepreneurial drive, creativity and success of our area's business leaders and owners. The competition drew a large pool of extraordinary candidates, all distinguished in business and in the community. In addition to the Business Journal award, Joe was the recipient in 2007 of both the Contractor’s Choice Award of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, Metro DC Chapter, and the ABC-VA Member of the Year. He was also recently appointed to District of Columbia Mayor’s Green Collar Advisory Council. Joe will receive his Minority Business Leader award in ceremonies April 11 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, National Harbor, MD.

ABC-VA Member to Serve as President of National CPA Assocation
Brian Bastis, Partner, Ryan & Wetmore, PC, a full-service accounting and management consulting firm, was recently elected as President of the Executive Committee of the National CPA Health Care Advisors Association (HCAA). He will begin his one-year term in October 2008. "I am honored to have been elected to this position," said Bastis.  


Howard Shockey & Sons Staffing Changes
Winchester, VA –Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. announces changes in its Business Development staffing:   Evrard Neil will be handling business development in the southern Virginia market.  Evrard will be located in Richmond, VA, where he lives and works.   Mike Ferro will be responsible for the northern Virginia markets. Mike's focus will be upon the acquisition of work across market sectors in core Shenandoah Valley markets as well as in urban northern Virginia markets.  Mike will be based in Winchester.   Jerry Baker will develop and build projects on hospital campuses throughout Virginia, West Virginia and beyond.  Jerry will be based in Winchester.   These changes will allow Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. to continue its effort to be the Partner of Choice® to school districts, governments, hospitals, developers and institutes of higher learning.


Bill Fairchild Sworn in as ABC National Chairman
 Bill Fairchild, president of R.W. Murray Co. in Manassas, Va., was sworn in as ABC’s 2008 national chairman during a special March 5 ceremony, one day before the opening of ABC’s 2008 National Convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Fairchild officially began his one-year term as ABC national chairman on January 1, 2008.  

“The experience that Bill brings to his role as ABC national chairman and his dedication to the principles of free enterprise and open competition are real assets to this association and its members,” said Kirk Pickerel, ABC president and CEO. “His spirit and passion for the industry will serve him well as he carries out his national responsibilities.”  

Fairchild has more than 30 years of construction industry experience and has been at R.W. Murray Co., which specializes in design/build commercial, industrial and retail projects, since 1988. He previously served as vice president of Caudle Construction of Manassas and began his construction career in Richmond, Va., with Whiting-Turner Contracting Co.  

He previously served as ABC’s Region 5 vice chairman, representing members and chapters in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. At the chapter level, Fairchild served as the ABC Virginia Chapter’s 2001 chairman. In 1998 and again in 2004, the chapter named him member of the year.  

Fairchild received a bachelor's degree in building construction from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) and is on Virginia Tech’s Myers-Lawson School of Construction Advisory Board. He is also an active member of many community organizations and serves on the Prince William (Va.) Health System Board of Directors.
