PM Development Series: Business Entity Types
Thursday, September 12, 2019
8:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M.
Session #10 of the 2019 ABC-VA Project Manager Development Series will provide class members instruction on the types of business entities and legal implications associated with each, licensing requirements for contractors, and compliance with building permitting. Risk to the Contractor is more often associated with the job-site and safety. Risk can also be associated with the failure to understand the legal implications associated with business entity types, working without a contractor’s license, locality business license requirements, working without a building permit, and Subcontractors working without a Subcontract. This impactful program will provide guidance on these risks and an understanding of the penalties and fines to the company if not properly followed.
This session will provide the Project Manager an overall understanding of the risks and implications associated with this topic.
About the Presenter
Eric L. Olson, Board for Contractors, Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation / Richmond
A product of the Virginia Public School System, Bluefield College and Barry University, Eric Olson has been working for federal, state, and local government for over 36 years. He was raised in Northern Virginia (where he didn't wear a bicycle helmet, climbed on steel monkey bars and was known to run with scissors) and has lived in Hampton Roads, Bluefield and, for the past 23 years, Hanover County. In addition to his work in the regulatory arena, his background is in emergency medicine, social services and law enforcement, including ten years in the U.S. Coast Guard. Eric has two grandchildren and is using them as an opportunity to get even with his children. An amateur beekeeper for six years, his internet blog about the trials and adventures of being a suburban beekeeper was followed by many, with most people interested in the sting count feature. He has been with the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation since 1996, starting as the Assistant Director of the Board for Contractors, and has served as the Board's Executive Director since 2001.
